Part 1: Goal Statement (10 points)
1: Students come to NOVA for many reasons. Discuss your goals for attending NOVA (e.g., your program of study at NOVA; how the program of study supports you in achieving your goals; if you intend to graduate, the anticipated semester/year).
Part 2: Transfer or Career Pathway Planning (40 points)
*Based on the goals identified above, choose either Option 2A (Transfer Pathway) OR 2B (Career Pathway) – do not complete both parts.
Option 2A: Transfer Pathway (Plan to transfer after NOVA)
List at least two colleges/universities you are interested in applying to in the future.
Identify the specific degree(s) you intend to pursue at the colleges/universities.
List at least five things you learned about the colleges/universities (e.g., distance from home, campus setting, public or private, tuition, housing, class size, faculty-to-student ratio, flexible learning options).
Identify the transfer requirements for each college/university (e.g., application deadline, application fee, minimum GPA, essay, letter(s) of recommendation, additional steps for admission to major). Do they have Guaranteed Admissions Agreements with NOVA? If so, list the requirements (e.g., GPA, letter of Intent, specific courses/grades, etc.).
Provide link to the Transfer Virginia institution profile or transfer admissions webpage for your intended transfer colleges/universities.
Option 2B: Career Pathway (Do not plan to transfer after NOVA)
Discuss your plans after you leave NOVA and why earning your degree or certificate from NOVA is going to be useful to you.
When reviewing the jobs you are interested in pursuing, what are some of the minimum requirements and preferred requirements the employer is looking for in an applicant?
When looking at the requirements needed for this job, do you believe you will possess those qualifications after the completion of your degree? Why or why not?
What are some steps you can take to prepare for applying and interviewing for jobs?
Provide link to a job announcement for a position that is of interest to you after the completion of your degree when you submit this assignment. Review the opportunities on NOVA’s Career Connection or an online job search.

Navigate Planner How to Guide.pdfDownload Navigate Planner How to Guide.pdf
Navigate tutorials: https://www.nvcc.edu/navigate/students.html(Links to an external site.) (scroll to Navigate Academic Planner in Navigate Student video)
Note:
If you are a non-degree student (i.e., dual enrollment, non-degree transfer, visiting/transient, etc.) or in an older catalog year (prior to 2020 fall) or discontinued program, use this Navigate Planner How To Guide for Non-Degree and Older Catalog Prior to 2020 Fall or Discontinued Program.pdf Download Navigate Planner How To Guide for Non-Degree and Older Catalog Prior to 2020 Fall or Discontinued Program.pdf.
If you are in your last semester at NOVA, inquire with your instructor for an alternate assignment.
Tips for creating your academic plan:
Include any support course(s) you may need based on placement.
Realistic full-time status is 12-15 credits with a maximum of 18 credits. Part-time is between 1-11 credits.
Classes with a grade of “D” or “F” will not transfer. Consider retaking those courses. If you are receiving financial support, verify with the appropriate office prior to doing so.
Keep in mind potential transfer credit (AP, IB, CLEP, previous college credit, or other sources). Rather, indicate potential transfer credit in the Submit Assignment text entry section. Refer to the Credit for Prior Learning ManualLinks to an external site. for more information.
2. Save your completed Navigate academic plan to your computer and submit it as an attachment via Start Assignment button at the top of the page. Once the submission tool appears at the bottom of this page, upload the required files. Be sure to review your work before submitting to ensure the entire document is viewable.
Refer to this Navigate Planner Example.pdf Download Navigate Planner Example.pdfas a guide for completing this assignment.
Note:
This assignment is not a substitute for advising and transfer planning. It is recommended that you use counseling and advising resources available at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and the four-year institutions that you are interested in transferring to.
It is also recommended that you view your Student Information System (SIS) advisement report to confirm your program of study is accurately reflected in your student record (tutorial: https://www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect/students/tuts/advising/report.htmlLinks to an external site.). If you need to change your program of study, contact your advisor or instructor for assistance. Changes made in SIS will reflect in Navigate in 24 hours.
