Each observation will take about two hours. You will take handwritten notes during the observation, (please keep these as they initially will be collected and discussed with you). You will then type the observation notes using a 2-3-page Word document and submit them to Brightspace under the assignment section.
Using objective language, describe specific behaviors you observed and noted in the observation narrative, and explain how those behaviors relate to the domains of language development while the children are at play. Be sure to cite developmental terms and concepts from your readings in chapter 4 (NAEYC 1a).
Describe an activity/play-based learning experience your focus child engaged in that helped foster their language development. Explain how the child interacted with the toys, materials, children and adults during the activity.
Explain if the child understands what/where questions, attempted conversations with adults, initiated and maintained topics of conversation with other children. or played mostly on their own.
Describe how the teacher uses extension techniques to build child language. How did the child respond?
Provide detailed and specific examples, based on what you observed, in which the child has met or not yet met age-related milestones for language development (NAEYC 3b).
Describe what you would have done differently if you were the teacher to help enhance the child’s language development? Please be very detailed and follow the instructions precisely.
