Imagine that you are the lead teacher in your school. Administrators from other schools in your district have requested your support in training their special education staff. They would like you to provide them with training and resources for additional methods of lesson planning that will support them in remaining compliant with IEPs.
Review the following resources from the University Library:
Understanding by Design
Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning
Reflect on how these methods of planning could be utilized in the special education environment.
Prepare using a digital tool or platform such as (but not limited to) Canva, Prezi, or Google Slides, create a multimedia presentation (8–10 slides) that walks your peers through the steps for creating lessons and addresses the following:
Examines at least 2 different methods for creating lesson plans, including Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Includes a definition and description of each design process
Explains the role of state and national standards in lesson planning and how they can be incorporated into lesson plans for learners with disabilities
Determines the sequential steps (benchmarks), keeping in mind the cognitive and developmental needs of students with disabilities
Describes how to incorporate IEP goals into the lesson design
Investigates methods for collaboration in planning instruction for diverse learning needs, including strategies for working with families, support staff, and other professionals
Includes methods and rationale for selecting appropriate assessments
Describes how technology can be integrated to support planning either within the curriculum or as tools for outcome
The presentation should be visually appealing and include at least 1 interactive element, such as a quiz or survey, to engage the audience.
