In this assignment, you will create an informative tri-fold brochure based on the needs of a family in a hypothetical classroom. The brochure will demonstrate your potential to support and involve families in learning more about their child’s development. Additionally, it will demonstrate your ability to put together a professional-looking document. A skill that is needed by all teachers.
Directions
Part 1: Paper
In a separate paper (this is not part of the brochure)
Imagine you are a teacher and your goal is to empower families by working together to support their child’s development. To do this, you must respond to the children within the context of their families and communities. For this paper, describe the classroom demographics using the following format in bullet points:
Age of children:
Socio-economic status of the general area:
Primary language(s) spoken:
City, State (describe if this is rural, inner-city, etc):
Describe in a few sentences, the general needs of the whole class that you are observing. Based on your pretend observation, you will respond to this need by creating an informational brochure to support parents through education. Explain why you chose this topic for your brochure based on student needs. For example, if you are describing a classroom of 2-year-olds, you may want to create a brochure that has strategies to help move through the stage of autonomy vs. shame and doubt.
Part 2: Brochure
Based on the classroom you described, you will be creating a brochure to support and involve families in learning more about their child’s development.
Include in your brochure:
The front panel should have a title, and attractive picture, and indicate the content. This panel would entice the parents to read the rest of the brochure.
The other panels should include:
Information on the topic chosen. For example, Information on Erik Erikson’s theory and the stage of Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
A minimum of 3 specific strategies with examples that parents can implement immediately and with ease. For example, share 3 strategies with clear examples that will help their child to become autonomous. (self-help skills, redirection, giving closed-ended choices. etc)
Include a minimum of two resources with live hyperlinks to the articles or videos, where parents might get additional information on the topic.
Presentation
Your brochure should be attractive and inviting. Use text boxes to organize your words and graphics/pictures.
Make sure all graphics or pictures selected are meaningful to the section they are included in. Avoid random photos.
It must be typed and look professional.
The completed brochure should be 2 pages, and if printed would have information that logically flows when printed front/back and folded.
