Please start exploring your choice –HOW MANY Afghans Emigrated from Afghanistan to the US; HOW MANY do we see Immigrated to the US since 1980 according to US Data. HOW MANY do we see seeking asylum/immigrating to the US as we were withdrawing and then after our complete withdrawal from Afghanistan. This should get you started.
There may already be a group of Ethnic Pastun-speakers from Afghanistan in the US. They could have immigrated here maybe after 1965 when the immigration laws changed (our study for later). Any Immigrants after 1980 might have had family here in the US which would make it easier for them to go to an existing Ethnic Enclave. You will probably find a large contingent who came as we were in “withdrawal mode” and after the US left Afghanistan. Please find a City into which the Afghans immigrated. You can find both primary and secondary sources in the city’s data.
You may want to see if there is a Pastun-speaking Community from Afghanistan in Fayetteville North Carolina. If so, Interviews from locally residing Pastun/Afghan Immigrants (naturalized citizens or non-citizens) could be a good Primary Source for your paper. Pastun-speaking Immigrants settled in the US.
I just heard a news report on the Asylum-seeking Afghans. You might be able to find News Articles about what is happening with their asylum-seeking efforts during this semester (8/17-12/1). These can be primary sources as well, and you could focus most of your Current Events Efforts on your Research Paper.
