Imagine you’re a crime analyst assigned to a midsized agency’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). Your agency has received numerous complaints in one neighborhood related to an increase in nuisance crimes and delinquency. These crimes are occurring during school hours from 8:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. and after midnight through 4:00 a.m. Your city has a juvenile curfew ordinance requiring students between the ages of 5 and 17 to be in school during school hours and also restricts unaccompanied minors between 5 and 17 years old from being in public after 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday unless they have a valid work permit.
The neighborhood characteristics where these crimes are occurring is in a two-block radius with multiple vacant, unkempt business properties, two convenience stores, an elementary school, a high school, a multiunit apartment complex with a large common area and parking lots, and a city park with a recreation center.
