PART 1 (2 resources)
It is encouraging that the World Health Organization
states the number of deaths from diseases that are non-communicable such as
injuries, cardiovascular disease, and stroke are decreasing (WHO, 2007),
however, it is discouraging that one in three persons die from
heart disease,
heart attack, or stroke (Ramos, 2017). Those with lack of exercise, sedentary
life styles, and poor diets high in saturated
fat are more prone to develop
cardiovascular disease. The American Heart Association identifies heart disease
as the leading cause of
death worldwide (AHA, 2019).
How can health care
delivery systems impact and address this global health issue?
PART 2 (2 resources)
It is important to have a good understanding of our
national and global public health organizations. The Centers for Disease
and Prevention (CDC), is the foremost public health agency of the U.S.
federal government operating 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
The CDC has many
responsibilities to protect our national and global health, and its mission is
to protect the nation’s health, safety, and
security from threats within and
from outside the U.S. (CDC, 2014). The World Health Organization (WHO) is
an agency of the United
Nations that is considered to be the “global
guardian of public health” (WHO, 2016). The role of the WHO is global
health security which
includes proactive and reactive activities that
reduce the vulnerability of populations to potential regional and international
health threats.
Health threats can include disease outbreaks,
malnutrition, bioterrorism, harmful environments or climates, and any disease
that is emerging,
epidemic, endemic, or pandemic (WHO, 2017) (GCU, 2018).
How do you feel about the fact that
national and global threats to health are monitored by these agencies?
