4.8 ASJPP PART3
The currently identified issues are women’s oppression and discrimination. In the recent past, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion. This resulted in the criminalization of abortion, subjecting women to a serious reproductive system rights crisis. I am interested in this issue because women’s rights have always been a sensitive issue in our society (The New York Times, 2022). Women are currently experiencing low labor wages compared to their male counterparts in the same area of operation. Women have also been experiencing domestic violence at a high rate in the country. Adding to their problems by forcing them to take unsafe backstreet abortion or denying them the service and forcing them to birth children they cannot raise is a big issue that adds to women’s problems. The issue needs to be evaluated as it is likely to cause more damage to women and families shortly.
The theoretical framework focuses on addressing inequalities and advocating for social, legal, political, and economic justice for oppressed individuals. When looking at women in America, one will realize a high level of inequality as compared to men. The current laws are mostly trending towards oppressing women further. The legal and political systems have always been limited to women and hence contribute a big deal to promoting women’s inequality in the country. The pandemic situation is also said to have pushed women 10 years back, widening their inequality gap (Taub, 2021). There is also the issue of an increase in domestic violence during the pandemic. All these issues make women’s political, legal, economic, and social justice slimmer and slimmer, as they widen women’s inequality and discrimination in the country (Cohen, 2021).
The current issue of abortion adds to women’s problems in society. With the enactment of the new abortion law reversal, more women will be exposed to unsafe abortion creating more cases of women in health danger who need urgent rescue. Also, allowing women who wish for abortion to birth these children will increase the cases of child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, and increase the number of children requiring placement or adoption, and behavior correct among other social issues in the country, worsening the situation further (The New York Times, 2022).
