Using the NIOSH Guide to Chemical Hazards and accompanying Introduction and How to Use resources, (Activity 5.1) and assuming the disaster event used for your final Case Study, select and discuss a chemical hazard that would be prevalent for responders, to include the chemical name, IDLH concentration if applicable, exposure limits, physical description, PPE required (including respiratory protection), and exposure route, symptoms, target organs etc. Keep in mind, even natural disasters expose responders to chemical hazards. Discuss how the responder could come in contact with this hazard. If you don’t believe your event could expose responders, for the purpose of this activity, assume an accident in a local industrial area and discuss the above points.
